Wakes up, opens the hotel blinds, calls room service, glams up, calls the Uber, and heads off to NYFW.
Now, can you read in between the lines? Fashion week is more than a routine as many make it seem. It is an opportunity to connect with many creatives in the industry. Although, work is the number one priority, stopping, and smelling the roses is a part of it all!
As I stepped into the Jill Stuart FW 2017 Presentation, the energy was buzzing, the people were snapping, and everyone was falling in love with the collection. So, how do you manage to break through the noise and meet great people? Read my tips below:
- Respect people’s space during a show/presentation. Most people that attend shows are there to take notes for work purposes. Therefore, you do not want to interrupt their creative process. There is plenty of time before and after a show to have a compelling conversation with someone.
- Wear a statement piece while staying true to your personal style. My statement piece of choice? My Shop Famosa Lace-up pants. I always get asked where I get them. This breaks down the barrier to any fashion conversation. Make sure to return the compliment!
- Never be afraid to go up to someone. I saw a fellow blogger I have only interacted with online and I went up to her after the show to introduce myself. This led to us introducing each other’s friends, creating an amazing networking opportunity.
- Follow up. Make sure to contact everyone that you met and present any collaborative ideas you might have. The more you expand your work, the more opportunities you will get.
No matter if you are attending a show, going to a networking event, or simply meeting a new group of friends, these tips will expand your network in a heartbeat.
